A homeowner in the Apex- Cary area of Wake County called the other day
regarding a roof leak. The homeowner said his roof has been leaking since
he replaced it a year ago. He said he hired a roofing contractor from
Raleigh to replace his roof. The homeowner said he called the roofing
contractor several times regarding the leak but the roofer would not return
his calls. So he called Cole Roofing & Construction. Once we arrived
the homeowner pointed out the locations of the leaks, there were 3 leaks.
Once on the roof the reason for the leaks were obvious. The roofing contractor
had used the wrong material for the starter course and the water was entering
the roof between the tabs of the first row of shingles. We informed the
homeowner of the reason for the leak and made the repairs. It was very
little the homeowner could have done to make certain the roofer used the
correct material for the starter course. The house was two stories and
the owner could not get on the roof to check the work. Like most homeowners
he didn’t know anything about a starter course . This underscores
the importance of hiring a roofing contractor with a good reputation not
only for installing roofs but also for returning your calls and standing
